Two bits of advice here. 1: Don't point a firearm at anything or anyone you don't intend to shoot. 2: If you're going to shoot, don't hesitate, and, at that range, don't wait for the perfect shot. As soon as you see any part of target in the sight, pull the trigger. In fact, as soon as it even looks like the weapon's pointed at your target, pull the trigger. Even if it misses, you still have time to get more shots off, and, if it hits, it'll hurt enough that you should be able to get more shots off, or try for that perfect shot.
And, because I'm generous, 3: Firearms at melee range? REALLY?
