Here comes some vigilante tinged good Samaritan actions that might make amber freak out on how actual people are much more... fragile than Gail is. Seeing as she hasn't actually fought someone who's on the low end mook spectrum like this yet... I mean, she's still pretty green and hasn... wait no, max would drill power control into her first and foremost before actual combat right?

Read it again and then read all the latter books, should clear up any misgivings in the first one. What's a good story without negative aspects in the beginning, eh?
If it's how Tavi's bullied about not having furies... well he's the main character so it's going to be a bit of emotional trauma, but not something that's going to really get in his way. The mantle of a main character also has a bit of a spoiler relating to that later on as well, seeing how fury craft is such a major part of the life of the average Aleran.
